I got out of prison. I did almost 30 years. I needed resources to help me get my Social Security. Roots gave me directions, got me a job, and I stayed with it. I feel good to be working, dependent on myself, and asking for no help.
Roots is a good place. It helps everybody. If you need the help, resources, they’ll put you in the right direction. You can find a place to live, benefits, and everything.
Because you need the resources. You need everything to help you. You don’t want to be going backward, you want to go forward. You want to be with your family, the people who love you. You want to get you a job, a little apartment or something to keep you on the right track, so you can go to work and take care of your family.
I came here when I first got out, because I didn’t have no help. I asked the parole people. They don’t do nothing. So I had to do it on my own.
People need help in the community, you know? There’s a lot of people need help to live. You’ve got people living in their cars or under a bridge or something. They ain’t got nowhere to stay. Roots helps them.
