Call to Action: Measure HH
Have you heard about Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf’s new City Budget Proposal? It plans to divert Measure HH funding, the money accrued by the sugar-sweetened beverage tax, to cover gaps within the city’s budget.
We are currently working on a project that seeks to educate and organize our community so they are empowered in making healthy beverage choices.

- I am concerned about the diversion of #MeasureHH funding @LibbySchaaf.
- .@LibbySchaaf, utilizing #MeasureHH funding for other purposes would take away from educational, nutritional programming for low income residents.
- Do not misuse organizational #MeasureHH funding @LibbySchaaf.

- @Libby Schaaf: We the people of Oakland voted to pass Measure HH with the belief that the funds were going to be used for health and nutrition education and prevention programs that reduce the health consequences of sugar sweetened beverages. We voted to create a Community Advisory Board, who would make recommendations on how to spend this revenue; they did not vote to give these funds to mayor to decide to fill in budget shortfalls. This breaks trust and shields transparency. The city council members must resist — and make it right. Restore the funds to Measure HH and establish and seat the Community Advisory Board as soon as possible.
