Askia Muhammad

Director of Navigation Services

Askia Muhammad is Director of Navigation Services for Roots Community Health.  Born and raised in the Western Addition in San Francisco, Askia is a successful graduate turned decade-long staffer of the University of San Francisco’s Upward Bound project.  His Upward Bound experience led him to dedicate more than three decades to serving as a Street Outreach Worker, Supervisor and Director in the Western Addition, Polk Gulch, the Tenderloin, and BayView Hunters Point neighborhoods of San Francisco (at one point overseeing all of the county’s HIV/HCV prevention outreach workers), West and East Oakland, including the Fruitvale District, North Richmond, and East Palo Alto, where he addressed a wide variety of housing and health needs of unsheltered and tenuously sheltered persons.  Askia is grateful for having been able to work for more than 40 years in Community-Based Non-Profits and be mentored by seven CEO’s of leading Bay Area nonprofits.

Askia received his Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law Studies at New College of California.
